Grass for Humans
Grass for Humans is a play and modular living spatial installation.
The play is written for an exhibition lasting 1 week or longer. The characters in the play mostly consist of non-human beings (except for the groundskeeper and the visitor) but are referred to as characters as they are living entities. They are meant to be installed in the centre of the room approximately 2 metres apart from each other so when a visitor picks up a script, they are given the space to enter and engage with the characters. Touching is permitted.

The gallery is well lit, a spotlight directed on each character, lights on full. Characters are installed in the centre of the room 2 metres apart from each other.
SCENE
CAPITAL LAWN, SUBURB, THE GREEN, CITY PARK, COMPLEX, T.O.C, EMBASSY and HEDGEMONY stand still for 1 week or longer. VISITOR may enter and walk freely around the characters. The characters are not designed to be trampled or walked on, and care must be taken not to apply pressure in any way other than a light pat by the hand.
GROUNDSKEEPER: enters daily at 11:30 am and waters each character with at least 450 ml of filtered water per character; administering it with a pitcher lightly over the larger characters, and using a spray mister for the edges. Once a week, prior to watering, the characters are trimmed.

NOTES:
The characters measure between 25”-30” in diameter and 9”-15” in height at the centre. The fences range in height from 3’ to 6’ and are made of materials to match the real world variations which they imitate. Most of the modules are grown in studio but some are borrowed from locations that match the specific characters and returned after the exhibition period.
